Fed: New handbook on social security system launched

The federal government has launched a new simplified guidebook -- all 750 pages of
it -- to Australia's social security system.

The fourth edition of the Independent Social Security Handbook outlines changes to
the welfare system over the past two years.

It has been designed as a guide for people receiving government benefits as well as
community welfare agencies.

Family and Community Services Minister AMANDA VANSTONE, launching the guide in Sydney,
said she was determined to reduce the red tape and complexities of the social security
system.
