WEATHER QLD BRISBANE 1800
QUEENSLAND WEATHER SUMMARY:

WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS: Nil.

RAINFALL SUMMARY: In the period 9am to 3pm a cloud band over the interior continued to
produce scattered rain areas over the inland. Showers and isolated thunderstorms continued
over central coastal and adjacent inland areas, and this weather was continuing to develop
further northwards during the afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms also continued over the far
northern tropics. Rainfalls from 9am to 3pm Friday included 21mm at Ayr, 8mm at Bowen, 9mm at
Proserpine, 6mm at Mackay, 6mm at Boulia, 8mm at Blackall, 7mm at Isisford, 8mm at Charters
Towers, and 5 mm at Horn Island, Barcaldine and Tambo.

TEMPERATURE SUMMARY: Daytime temperatures during Friday were mostly near, or slightly above
the April averages, except in parts of the west, where heavier cloud cover and some rain kept
temperatures to below average. Mt Isa, at 26 deg, was 5 deg below average, and Longreach 3
below average at 28 deg. The highest temperature reported to 3pm was 37 deg at Richmond.

NOTES ON THE WEATHER CHART: The most noticeable feature on the surface chart is a large
high in the Bight. A ridge from the high is building onto the New South Wales coast. A broadly
unstable SE to E airstream has spread across Queensland. Heavier cloud cover has prevailed
over the interior in a broad uplift zone ahead of an upper trough lying from Central Australia
to the Southern New South Wales coast. Some rainfall has been reported from most districts
under the cloud band. A weak disturbance tracked westwards across the Coral Sea yesterday and
has produced scattered showers and a few isolated thunderstorms in the central coast and
adjacent inland areas. This influence has caused showers and thunderstorms to extend to areas
to the north of the central coastal districts during Friday. Showers and thunderstorms have
continued over the far northern tropics.
