A man who was shot eight times by city police last year after slashing at them with a box cutter was sentenced Wednesday to seven years in prison.
Mark Barmore, 37, sat in the back of a Schenectady County courtroom for the sentencing before Judge Richard Giardino because the wheelchair he has been confined to since the incident would not fit through the gate into the center of the courtroom.
Barmore had pleaded guilty in April to first-degree attempted assault. If convicted at trial, he could have faced 25 years to life in prison as a persistent felony offender because of a 1994 burglary conviction in Queens. …
